The activity of the Romanian office of the international law company White & Case was not affected by the crisis that hit the financial markets around the world.

"The demand for our services in Romania remains high, both from the local clients and from the international ones. In Romania we are concentrating on M&A, real estate, project financing and other commercial activities. According to opportunities, we can offer consultancy services in relation to the funding of the activities of the central and local authorities. These last few months we have had an intense consultancy activity in real estate, financing and re-financing in this field. We also had transactions in the financial-banking field and to a certain extent we got involved in litigations", said Delia Pachiu (photo), one of the local partners of the international firm White & Case.

However, the near future might bring about changes in the company’s activity structure, says the representative of White & Case. "There may be an important rise in the number of restructuring and insolvency cases ", said Delia Pachiu. In her opinion, the works related to project financing, especially those related to infrastructure and energy works, is an area that has not been affected by the conditions of the current market.

The lawyer of White & Case said that the global markets are very unstable at present and therefore we may witness an increase of the demand in some areas and a drop in others. "Generally, as a global law firm with a diversified activity, we are confident that the demand will remain high overall. The current changes in the global market may affect the type of legal services requested by our clients, but not the amount of the demand", also said Delia Pachiu.
The crisis will not affect the budgets or the personnel scheme of the law firm. "As any successful firm, we have always seriously focused on the financial management and we continue this approach as we have always done. Generally speaking, it could alter the structure of our activity. For instance, we could witness an increase of the demand for legal counseling in insolvency and restructuring matters", concluded the attorney of White & Case.
