The Bucharest office of the international law firm Salans has grown this year as compared to year 2007, but its representatives say that they must be prepared for a year with a lot of incertitude. “Under these circumstances, we will also pay a lot of attention to our hiring plans. We are as exposed as any other consultancy business, on a very competitive market, where the work volume is decreasing”, showed the representatives of the law firm.
They mentioned that a slowdown is felt as regards real estate transactions and especially transactions involving real estate acquisition. “M&A transactions are constant, even if they do not have huge values. In principle, the sectors not relying on bank loans were not negatively affected”, explained Salans’s lawyers.
At mid-October, Salans won, for the second time in row, the Euromoney prize for the best real estate team in emerging Europe. This region includes Romania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Ukraine, Russia and Turkey. Salans was also mentioned as the law firm with the best real estate team in Romania, Russia and Turkey.
The law firm was involved in the most important energy transaction of the year: the sale by the investment fund Continental Wind Partners (CWP) to the Czech company CEZ of a wind farm project in Dobrogea. “In the CWP transaction, the other party was represented by Tuca Zbarcea & Asociatii and Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. Linklaters lawyers worked on our side”, declared the representatives of the law firm. The firm has recently announced that it assisted Anchor Office Development and Management SRL, a member of Anchor Grup, in a refinancing project of EUR 57.6 million for Anchor Plaza. Salans also assisted GE Real Estate and Helios-Phoenix in the joint venture whereby the two firms develop a warehouse project worth EUR 175 million, in seven towns from Romania.
Salans provides legal assistance for a wide range of transactions in the capital market and securities sectors. The portfolio of relevant clients includes local and international banks, insurance companies, security agency companies, investment funds, private companies. Salans ensured the legal consulting for the first listing of a Romanian firm, i.e. A&D Pharma, on the London Stock Exchange, and for the first issuance of bonds by a Romanian company, in view of being listed on a foreign stock exchange (Luxembourg), for BRD-Societe Generale.
